Intake Coordinator

Thunder Bay Counselling is seeking applications from qualified individuals for the position of Intake Coordinator.

An Intake Coordinator plays an important role in supporting clients to access our services. The Intake Coordinator works with staff across the organization as well as workers from other community organizations to support service navigation and enhance access for those who would most benefit from our programs and services. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, a passion for the mental health and well-being of people in our community, strong coordination skills, and expertise in engaging people from diverse backgrounds.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to screen for intimate partner violence, male sexual abuse, substance use and mental health
  • Experience collaborating and liaising with community organizations to support access to services
  • Understanding of Indigenous culture and history with awareness of culturally respectful services
  • Training and experience in crisis intervention, including assessing for risk of harm to self and others
  • Bilingual (English/French) an asset

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor level degree in social science or equivalent
  • Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers 
  • Two (2) years of experience working with clients with issues associated with mental health, substance use, violence and/or trauma

PAR Program Coordinator

Thunder Bay Counselling is currently looking to fill the full-time permanent position of Coordinator for the Partner Assault Response (PAR) Program. This position provides flexible hours of work. PAR is a Domestic Violence Court initiative that delivers a specialized community-based group to offenders who have been mandated by the court to attend the program in response to a criminal charge involving domestic violence. The program provides offenders with an opportunity to examine their beliefs and attitudes towards intimate partner violence, and to learn non-abusive ways of resolving conflict. PAR programs aim to enhance victim safety and hold offenders accountable for their behaviour.

Responsibilities

  • Liaising with referents and the community to promote the program
  • Completing intake assessments with individuals referred
  • Facilitating groups
  • Client records and service documentation
  • Liaising with and reporting back to the Crown and/or Probation and Parole Officers
  • Liaising with staff completing partner contacts
  • Supervising group facilitators
  • Data collection
  • Overseeing quality management and client feedback/input processes.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor level degree in social work or related field
  • Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario
  • Three (3) years of experience working in the area of intimate partner violence

This position is responsible for the clinical integrity of our services and will provide leadership in service delivery, evaluation and continuous improvement, being proactive and responsive to changing community needs and issues.

Areas of Responsibility

The Director is responsible for:

  • Designing and supporting the consistent delivery of services that are reflective of current research and emerging/promising practices
  • Fostering a culture of continuous quality improvement
  • Advancing the organization’s diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism framework, reducing inequities for people in accessing and receiving services
  • Achieving and reporting on service-related outcomes in alignment with intended performance indicators
  • Engaging people with lived and living experience to inform service delivery
  • Building intentional and strategic cross-sector relationships to ensure collaboration in service delivery
  • Supporting the development, growth, engagement and retention of the organization’s clinical human resources
  • Day to day clinical oversight, mentorship and empowerment of program supervisors and front-line staff where required

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate will have:  

A Masters level degree in social work or related field and registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario
An understanding of and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism with the ability to apply a diversity framework to all areas of responsibility

Knowledge and Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of clinical theory and evidence informed practice in areas such as mental health, addiction, sexual and intimate partner violence, abuse and/or trauma
  • Understanding of the social issues impacting our community and clients we serve
  • Being a strategic, critical and analytical thinker who can provide evidence of turning ideas into actions
  • Being a strong operational leader who can execute on a plan, establish and meet goals and oversee clinical services at an organizational level
  • Knowledge of and experience in developing quality assurance plans and in utilizing quality improvement principles, tools and methodologies
  • Experience in service evaluation
  • Understanding the impacts of intergenerational trauma in the Indigenous community and a sound understanding of culturally relevant approaches in service delivery
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships both internally and externally
  • Excellent leadership and supervisory skills
