Thunder Bay, ON, May 29th, 2017 – Thunder Bay Counselling is celebrating its golden anniversary in the city of Thunder Bay this week. Today, to commemorate 50 years in the community, employees from the not-for-profit organization placed 50 butterflies outside of its Winnipeg Avenue location. This kicked off the formal celebrations for the anniversary and recognized the evolution of Thunder Bay Counselling over the past five decades.
“The butterfly has always been an important symbol to Thunder Bay Counselling. It captures the remarkable transformation that this agency has undertaken over the past 50 years and the essence of positive change that is happening in people’s lives as a result of the organization’s support. The butterfly has also been an integral part of the Thunder Bay Counselling brand and has been associated with the services the organization provides;” says Thunder Bay Counselling Board Member, Tasha Coughlan Mandryk.
“Today, Thunder Bay Counselling also recognizes all of our staff, volunteers and community partners. Supporting more than 5000 clients every year, Thunder Bay Counselling has truly established its position as the leading community counselling service provider;” says Thunder Bay Counselling, Executive Director, Nancy Chamberlain. “These butterflies also represent the people who were crucial in the growth and development of the organization. It’s because of their dedication that Thunder Bay Counselling has become a high quality, accessible and sustainable service offering for the community of Thunder Bay and the Northwestern Ontario region.”
The community is encouraged to support and celebrate Thunder Bay Counselling and its golden anniversary. A 50th Anniversary Community Open House will take place on June 1st, from 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Thunder Bay Counselling (544 Winnipeg Avenue). Attendees will take a journey into the past to present day through themed historical era rooms, which include speakers and interactive displays. “Come join us to celebrate the last 50 years and how far we’ve come;” continues Chamberlain.
Community members also have the opportunity to have their very own Thunder Bay Counselling 50th Anniversary butterfly by making a $50 donation to the organization this week. All funding raised will support programming at the agency. To make a donation, you can visit the centre directly or call: 684-1880
