Family Group Decision Making
|
This program provides opportunities for families involved with child welfare to have a voice in the decision making and planning regarding their children’s safety and well being. Facilitators who are trained in Family Group Decision Making principles and strategies support the preparation and coordination of a family meeting that is tailored for each family group, based upon their unique needs, culture and situation. They decide who is invited and this can include parents, children, relatives, friends, community members and anyone else important to them. The family meeting often includes collaborating with community service providers. |

The services and support offered to families are guided by the Family Group Decision Making beliefs and principles:
- Families can work together to participate in the decision making
- FGDM is inclusive of all family group members
- Decision making is shared; no one person holds all of the power
- Family members know themselves and their family best
- Family is the primary author of the plan
- FGDM is child focused
